But how do I figure out who I am?
Life doesn’t come with a manual, and even if it did, we’d probably get an IKEA explanation of how to get through it. Do we actually need a manual though? Is life only livable if we know exactly how to live it? Where’s the fun in that?
Even being the type A personality that I am, I have a firm understanding and acceptance that we have to live life on life’s terms. This doesn’t mean that we remain content in misery, but it does mean that we relinquish control of life, and instead pursue mastering control on the one thing we can— our self.
Hence the Dolly Parton quote as the title of this blog post. Once you’re aligned with yourself, you can monopolize on that knowledge to influence friendships, relationships, and professional opportunities that keep you happy.
A lot of people feel that therapy is all about fixing problems, which leads them to think, “My problems aren’t that serious to try therapy”. Don’t be that person. I mean, more power to you if you feel that you can push through whatever negative circumstances your facing— but you don’t have to do it alone.
But I digress, because again, therapy is not just about resolving issues. Therapy is also about self-exploration, which helps to align us with our true self.
One of my favorite parts of being a therapist is highlighting the strengths of my clients, then using those strengths to empower them into further self-exploration and validation.
So let’s circle back to the first question: How do I figure out who I am? If you haven’t figured that out yet, maybe I can help you 😘
